La Mine d'Or and the little traditional harbour of Tréhiguier

Camping Morbihan Bretagne Sud - The region

The famous classified site of the beach of La Mine d'Or with its cliffs of the most extraordinary colours, ranging from yellow to red-ochre, boasts a geological section that is unique in Europe.
Discover it for yourself on foot, or else, why not from a paraglider?

The little harbour of Tréhiguier, whose speciality is farming mussels, has barely changed since the beginning of the last century.
Here, you can visit the "Maison de la mytiliculture": a small museum installed in a former lighthouse, where you can learn about the production of mussels. This Penestin speciality involves around fifty businesses.
The mussel beds – veritable fields of stakes driven into the ground – can be seen at low tide.

The Vilaine estuary and the ancient town of La Roche-Bernard

Camping Morbihan Bretagne Sud - The region

Where maritime and river traffic meet, at the heart of La Vilaine Océane, the port of La Roche-Bernard can harbour more than 500 boats.
It was the Vikings who, around 919 A.D., discovered it while sailing up the Vilaine estuary. Nowadays, it is widely renowned due to the richness of the history in which it is steeped.

La Roche-Bernard owes its charm to its distant past and to the river Vilaine, which shapes the region's landscapes. Here, history is told in stone.
It will reveal its unsuspected secrets to whoever will lend an ear.
Prick up your ears, and find yourself sailing up the founding river, carried by the tide.Open your eyes, and relive the city's rich past, during the days of the barons and the sailing ships.
Mansions, former warehouses and other salt storehouses are just some of the evidence that you will come across as you wander through the narrow lanes.

Vannes and the Gulf of Morbihan

Camping Morbihan Bretagne Sud - The region

Vannes boasts the rare privilege of being a pleasure port right in the centre of the town.
The keystone of the gulf of Morbihan, it enjoys a mild and sunny climate.
Vannes is also a town of art and history – a prestigious past dating back 2,000 years with its cathedral, the Musée de la Cohue, its ramparts, and the old wash houses.
One can happily spend time walking around here, and the parks (tropical butterfly house), along with the oceanographic and tropical aquarium (Aquarium Océanique et Tropical) will add an exotic touch to your visit.

Lying on the Armorican Atlantic facade, the gulf of Morbihan ("little sea" in Breton) gave its name to the département.
It is indeed a small interior sea, enclosed by the Rhuys peninsula, which covers some 100 km2.A narrow channel, with strong currents, allows access to the ocean.
It boasts 300 islands, around thirty of which are inhabited. Its mild, sunny climate, and the beauty of its indented coastlines make the gulf of Morbihan a renowned tourist spot.

The Carnac Menhirs

At 6,000 years old, the megalithic site at Carnac is a focal point of European prehistory.
Its 3,000-odd standing stones are distributed in a well-structured arrangement over a length of 4 km, and covering 40 hectares.
The Carnac group constitutes one of the prime sites of monumental stone architecture in Europe. The sites are open to the public during the winter, from October 1 to March 31, and during the summer for educational visits only.
